Privacy Policy
The short version
- You don't need an account: there is no sign-in today, and a future account will be optional. Today the app sends no analytics; we plan anonymous usage and device metrics to help us find and fix problems, which will never identify you (see “Planned features” below).
- Your collection, decks, tags, settings and pictures stay on your device. We (the developer) never receive them.
- The camera is used only to recognize cards, on the device. Camera pictures are not saved and not sent anywhere.
- The app downloads public card pictures, prices and exchange rates from the sources listed below. Those requests do not contain your collection or anything that identifies you.
- Backups go only where you choose, or into your own Android backup if your phone has it turned on.
- We do not sell or share personal information. We do not collect any.
Who we are
MythicHoard is an independent app made by a single developer (“we”). The person in charge of personal information for MythicHoard is its developer. For any privacy question or request, write to privacy@mythichoard.com.
What stays on your device
Everything you put into MythicHoard is stored only in the app's private storage on your device:
- your collection (cards, quantities, conditions, languages, finishes, notes), folders, groups, decks, tags and scan history;
- your settings;
- pictures you choose as folder or deck covers (a resized copy);
- the card catalog and language packs you import, the card pictures and prices the app downloads, and caches it builds from them;
- a small technical diagnostics log (see “Diagnostics” below).
None of this is sent to us. We have no server that receives it.
Camera
MythicHoard asks for camera access to scan cards. Camera frames are analyzed in the device's memory to recognize the card, then discarded. They are not saved, not uploaded and not shared. The app does not use the microphone.
The app has a hidden developer mode (off by default) used for testing. In it, a “Record frames” switch (also off by default) saves scan frames into the app's own storage on the device for testing recognition. Those recordings never leave the device unless you copy them off yourself, and they are deleted when the app is uninstalled.
What the app downloads, and from where
MythicHoard works offline. When you are online it can download public data. Each request asks a server for public information (a card's picture, a price file, an exchange rate). It does not contain your collection, your name, an account, an advertising ID or any other identifier. Each request carries the app's name and version (for example “MythicHoard/1.0.0”) and a link to this website, as these services ask.
| Service | What the app gets | When |
|---|---|---|
| Scryfall (api.scryfall.com, data.scryfall.io, cards.scryfall.io) | Card pictures; card prices (TCGplayer and Cardmarket prices as published by Scryfall) | Pictures of your cards in the background (Wi-Fi only by default) and pictures of cards you look at; prices once a day (before the first daily price download, also the price of a card you open). Each can be turned off or limited to Wi-Fi in Settings. |
| MTGJSON (mtgjson.com) | A daily price file | Only if you choose one of the price sources it provides. |
| Bank of Canada (bankofcanada.ca) | Today's U.S. dollar and euro exchange rates | At most once a day, only when you show prices in a currency other than the price source's own. |
| Archidekt (archidekt.com), MTGGoldfish (mtggoldfish.com) | A public deck list | Only when you paste a deck link and tap to import it. The app asks that site for that deck only. |
Like any website you visit, these services can see your device's IP address and which public file was asked for (for example, which card's picture). Their own privacy policies apply to what they do with that. We do not receive any of it.
Links in the app (for example “View on Scryfall” or “Gatherer”) open in your web browser. The card catalog itself is not downloaded by the app: you import a catalog file you choose.
Diagnostics
To help find problems, the app keeps a small technical log on the device: the app version, the system version, which recognition model and processor path the scanner used, timings, counts and error types. It never contains a camera picture, recognized card text, your collection, anything you typed or a file path. It is limited in size, older entries are deleted automatically, it is not included in any backup, and today it is not sent anywhere (see “Planned features”). It can be viewed, exported to a file you choose, or cleared from the developer mode.
Backups, exports and imports
- Backups and exports (a
.mythichoard-backupfile, CSV or deck lists) are saved where you choose: on the device, in a folder you pick, or anywhere the system's file dialog lets you save. Optional automatic weekly backups (off by default) and “Back up now” copies are kept in the app's private storage, and also copied into a backup folder if you choose one. If that folder is synced by a cloud service you use, that service's terms apply. - Android backup. If backup is turned on for your Google account on your phone, Android may back up your collection database and your cover pictures to your Google account, and restore them on a new phone. This is a feature of Android run by Google; we cannot access it. The card catalog, downloaded pictures, prices, diagnostics and device-specific files are excluded. You can turn it off in your phone's settings.
- Imports (a catalog package, a language pack, a CSV, a deck list, a cover picture, a backup to restore) are read from the file you pick through the system's file picker. The app does not browse your files or photos on its own.
Permissions the Android app uses
- Camera: scanning cards.
- Internet and network state: the downloads above, and telling Wi-Fi from mobile data so your Wi-Fi-only choices are respected.
- Vibrate: the scanner's feedback when a card was not added.
What we don't do
- No account or sign-in needed (a future account will be optional).
- No advertising ID.
- No tracking, and no third-party SDK that collects data. Today there is no analytics or crash-reporting service either; the planned anonymous metrics are described below.
- No location, contacts, microphone or phone-state access.
- No selling, renting or sharing of personal information.
Children
MythicHoard is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Your choices and rights
Because your data stays on your device, you are in control of it: you can edit or delete anything in the app, export it, and remove all of it by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app (your own backup files and your Android backup are kept until you delete them). We do not hold personal information about you, so there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete; if you think otherwise, or have any question, write to privacy@mythichoard.com and we will answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example under Quebec's Law 25, Canada's PIPEDA or the EU's GDPR) you may also contact your privacy authority.
This website
mythichoard.com is a static website. It uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts, and its fonts are served from the site itself. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses and request details to deliver and protect the site, as any host does. If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you.
Planned features
We plan features that would send data off the device: anonymous usage and device metrics to help us find and fix problems and make the app work on every device (for example which screens fail, how long a scan takes, and the device's technical profile: phone model, Android version, total and free memory, processor and AI-chip type), an optional account with cloud backup and sync between your devices, and sending the technical log described above. They do not exist yet. The metrics will be anonymous: no name, no e-mail, no advertising ID, no phone number or device serial, and nothing that ties them to you or your collection. Before any of these ships, this policy will be updated to describe exactly what is sent, to whom and why.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and the app's store listing will link to it.
